Iola 2017 Car Show

On Saturday at the Iola 2017 Car Show we spotted a rare 1957 Pontiac Bonneville Fuel Injected Convertible cruising the grounds in the Blue Ribbon Concours.

Iola 2017 Car Show & Swap Meet …

The Iola 2017 Car Show & Swap Meet is honoring Camaros, Firebirds and Pony Cars from the Trans Am Series. It is the 50-Year Anniversary of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird. One of the big displays today included Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, Cougars and Mopar Pony Cars. As always, there were great cars and trucks from all eras represented as the 45th Annual Iola 2017 Car Show convened in little Iola, Wisconsin, July 6-8, 2017. Once a year this community puts on one of the top ten best car shows in the country. The giant swap meet is like no other in size and quality of parts. If you can’t find it here, it doesn’t exist.

While we were taking a break from searching the swap meet fields, we caught some of the excitement at the Pass In Review in the concours area. Here is some video of the Pass In Review:

The Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird are celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year. So the Iola 2017 Car Show decided to invite Camaro and Firebird owners to bring their cars for a special display. While they were at it they invited some of the top Pony cars that competed against them in the SCCA Trans Am series back in the day. Here is a slider of the cars we saw here today:

When you go to the Iola Car Show one of the areas to take in is the Blue Ribbon Concours. Here you will find cars which are on display by invitation only. Needless to say these are some of the finest in the country.

If the Iola Car Show is unfamiliar to you, you may want to put it on your bucket list. It is well worth the effort to experience this show at least once. Here are some of the stories from past shows we have attended in Iola, Wisconsin.

“Four For All in ’14” was the theme for the 2014 Iola Old Car Show. The fields surrounding tiny Iola, Wiscosnin were filled with classic and vintage 4-Door cars here,  July 10-13, 2014.  Once a year this little rural community is the home for one of America’s biggest car shows. This was the 42nd Annual 2014 Iola Old Car Show, the show that has a gigantic swap meet covering hundreds of acres. More than 125 civic and service groups contributed more than 29,000 volunteer hours to make the show a reality. They say there were over 2,200 show cars on the grounds and even more in the huge car corral where classic cars were offered for sale.

The theme of the 2014  Iola Old Car Show was “Four for All in’14” which invited some of the best four-door classics from around the country to be part of the showcases. There was also a display “Celebrating 50 Years of Mustang” featured on the show grounds.

“Immense” is a great word to describe the Iola Old Car Show, with more than 4,400 swap spaces, over 1,000 cars in the car corral and 120,000 spectators there to take it all in. The acreage the show covers makes it one of the largest collector shows in the country. Doug Bennett, Cars On Line’s photo-journalist was there to grab photos of some of the show’s best cars. When the owner found this 1924 Packard Fleetwood, he said he was picking up parts out of the dirt where it had sat for 38 years in Northern Wisconsin. He then began a restoration that would last from 1988 to 2009. Now it’s a drop-dead gorgeous show-winner. The 1924 Packard Fleetwood was invited to the featured display at the 2014 Iola Car Show, where it joined many more notable four-doors. You might remember it from an article in Old Cars Weekly.

This 1924 Packard Town Car model 143 is powered by the original version of the straight eight engine, which produces 90 horsepower and can maintain speeds of about 70 miles per hour. Click the photo below to see a high resolution view.

Preston Tucker produced the 1948 Tucker 48 Sedan out of Chicago, Illinois and made only 51 cars before folding on March 3, 1949. Chicago Vintage Motor Carriage pulled this one from the  Richard Driehaus Collection and parked it on the IOLA Old Car Show grounds for the 2014 show. It bears a #1008 chassis number and was originally beige, but now wears a maroon coat. This isn’t the first time one of these rare cars made it to the IOLA show. The other one, a 1948 Tucker #1048 (Green) has attended in the past and is located in Southern Wisconsin. Click any of the images below for a closer look.
