Sometimes fate just smiles on you. That’s the way Steve Tornari must have felt Friday morning when his 1967 Chevy Nova Pro Touring Resto Mod was included in the Great 8 group of finalists to contend for the Ridler Award here at the 2014 Detroit Autorama. Tornari told us his builder, Miranda Built out of Palm City, Florida, just finished the car on that previous Tuesday before the show. They just had time to pack it in the trailer and get it to the show.
Tim Allen at Miranda Built told us this was one of their stellar designs and builds. The car was painted by Charley Hutton of Charley Hutton Color Studio, famous for his work on many Ridler Award winners in the past. It has a custom one-off interior that was designed by Eric Brockmeyer and fabricated by Extreme Performance. The engine is a NASCAR engine from Rick Hendrick. It is a small block Chevy 355 SB2. Tim Allen told us it was rated at 850 base horsepower at the rear wheels. It uses Precision turbos with custom fabricated manifolds. The Ride Tech Shock Waves and all the electronics are controlled with an iPad screen in the dash (see photos) utilizing an ISIS Intelligent Multiplex System. The Budnick Gasser D wheels are custom colored to fit the design and paint of the overall car.
The resto mod paint and theme are stunning on this car and consistent throughout the build. It was entered in the Pro Touring class for the Ridler Award judging.
