1963 Corvette Pro Street

In an article titled Corvettes – 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction Cars On has captured a theme for the world’s most important collector car auction here in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 1963 Corvette Pro Street (shown above) will be among the most desirable cars in the high profile sale this weekend. Among the fine selection of desirable collector Corvettes to be sold is a car familiar to Car On Line  readers.  The Saturday prime time lineup of cars which will cross the auction block at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Auction includes the 1963 Corvette Pro Street which was chosen as last year’s 2012 CAR of the YEAR on the Cars On Line website. 

The custom Split Window Corvette is billed as the “The World’s Fastest Street Legal Corvette,” certified by NHRA and IHRA Pro Mod- 7.50 ET and faster. Newsletter readers know that this car was designed and built by Rod Saboury, one of the world’s most noted Pro Street Corvette builders. The body is a real 1963 split window with original VIN plate and correct title, lengthened and widened hood with scoops to house the trubos. Lengthened 12″, 6″ in rear of front fenders, 4″ in the roof and 2″ in the rear quarters, quarter panels raised 2″, rear of body widened 3″, rear wing recessed into body, functioning trunk looks OEM.

Featuring a chromoly double frame rail chassis by Lowdown Hot Rods, Mike Moran 427 small block Chevy twin turbo engine producing 2,600hp and 1700 ft/lbs torque, has clocked times at 6.75 and 209mph in street trim. MRE sheet metal intake manifold with billet runners, Dart ‘Little Chief’ heads, custom headers by Larson, Dart billet block, 88mm Garrett turbos, Jesel distributor with Mag 44 cap, Big Stuff ‘Gen 3’ Pro SEFI and traction control. Racepak UDX digital display, Racepak V300 computer, 9″ AFT triple disc clutch, Titanium bellhousing, Lenco CS2 4-speed, Strange axles and disc brakes, Powermaster 210 amp alternator produces 18.5 volts, Weldon fuel pump with voltage reducer to slow pump down for street driving, 16-volt system, American Racing wheels with front spindle mounts and Mickey Thompson SR radials.

Here’s a preview of some of the “prime time” Corvettes at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction on Saturday. All are from the 5000 Series of special cars to be auctioned off during the late afternoon and early evening broadcast of the auction on the National Geographic Channel. 1967 Corvette L88

One of only 20 such cars ever produced. This is a real deal 1967 Corvette L88 Coupe, one of the most sought after Corvettes of all time. It is said to be documented and have the L88 427 HD, M22 4-speed, J56 heavy duty brakes, J50 power brakes, F41 suspension, K66 transistor ignition, G81 4.56 posi-traction and shoulder harness. This is the only 1967 L88 to have attained an NCRS 98.2 Regional Top Flight 2001. It will be Lot # 5035 during “prime time” at the Barrett-Jackson Auction next Saturday.


1970 Corvette ZR1

A very rare 1970 Corvette ZR1 Coupe will be Lot # 5009 on Saturday at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of 25 built in 1970, it has the legendary 350/370hp Special High Performance V8 with solid lifters, M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission, F41 special heavy duty suspension, 4.11:1 posi-traction, J56 power dual pin disc brakes, complete in its factory color combination of stunning Monza Red with black vinyl interior. They say this car was the recipient of an NCRS Chapter Top Flight Award in 2013. Originally delivered to Canada, complete with the GM of Canada documents.

A 1969 Corvette L88 race car is featured in the Cars On Line preview of Corvettes – 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction. This incredible Corvette L88 is one of only four factory light weight L88’s ever produced. The world record holding #57 Rebel Corvette convertible has appeared in numerous publications and graced the cover of Autoweek, Corvette News and Corvette Corner back in its day. They say it is equipped with open chamber heads, an option not available to the public until June of the model year, and a dual disc clutch. –
