Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada

Tribute to Yesteryears at Hot August Nights 2015  …

SUNDAY, Reno, NV — This year’s Hot August Nights 2015 Car Show was all that it was billed as. From the famous Nevada cruises to the Barrett-Jackson Auction to the now famous Barrett-Jackson Cup competition, it was a blur of action here in Reno. As a tribute to the days when cars were the culture here in this Nevada desert, cruisin’ and cars were the way we celebrated summer fun. Throwback to the ’60s and ’70s? … you bet.

Here is a video sample of the action at Hot August Nights this year:

It was announced on Saturday that the winner of the Barrett-Jackson Cup award at Hot August Nights 2015 is the 1962 Chevy Impala Bubbletop owned by Randy and Lisa Wilcox. Andy Leach of Cal Automotive Creation was on hand to accept the award as well as accept the Builders Award for his work on the ’62 Bubbletop. Andy is shown below with his wife and children. Cars On readers will remember that Andy was also the builder on the 2012 Ridler Award winner, a 1940 Ford called Checkered Past.

Although the Barrett-Jackson Cup award is only in its third year here at Hot August Nights, it has already become one of the most sought after prize packages in the custom car hobby. With over $100,000 in cash and prizes awarded, cars from all over the country have arrived here to compete for the award. The Top 25 Finalists have already been chosen.  The final five, otherwise known as the “Reno 5,” along with the Ultimate Best of Show, will be announced at the closing of Barrett-Jackson’s auction on Saturday night.

Hot August Nights is one of the top car shows in the U.S. with over 10,000 cars expected to congregate at the Reno area casinos and downtown show displays. The streets of downtown Reno are crowded with show goers today. They expect several hundred thousand spectators were on and for the six-day event. Our readers know that Hot August Nights is Cars On Line’s favorite car show. This year it ran August 4-9, 2015 with events going on constantly all over the Reno and Sparks area. Here is a montage of photos showing the action here at Hot August Nights:

Bob Boberg of and his wife Donna are covering the show for Cars On this year. They covered the action in downtown Reno and Sparks, the famous evening cruises, the Barrett-Jackson Auction and the Barrett-Jackson Cup competition where some of the top cars in the country competed for the Barrett-Jackson Cup prize.

Hot August Nights is one of our favorite car shows ever. There’s nothing like cruising at Hot August Nights under the famous Reno arch as hundreds of thousands of people crowd along the streets to get a look at all the cars. Every night there is drag racing action at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino. They actually set up an 1/8-mile dragway, and registered participants at the show take passes to see how fast they are.
