Amelia Island Concours Best of Show Winners Chosen
The Amelia Island Concours Best of Show winners were announced on Saturday afternoon here at the East Coast’s premier collector car experience. The pomp and circumstance surrounding the Amelia Island Concours awards ceremony has no equal on the American car show scene. In the midst of a spray of champaign and the elation of winning, two collectors cars stood out among the serious show cars here on Amelia Island today. A 1929 Duesenberg J/SJ Convertible, owned by Harry Yeaggy, of Cincinnati, Ohio was chosen Concours D’Elegance Best of Show while a 1963 Ferrari 250/275 P out of The JSL Motorsports Collection, of Redwood City, California won Concours D’Sport Best of Show. These are two of the top awards which can be achieved in the collector car hobby.
The 1929 Duesenberg J/SJ Convertible has styling much like that of a Walter Murphy coachwork build, although this one was done by Bohman & Schwartz of Pasadena, California. The supercharged version could do 140 mph in third gear. This was a very fast car for its era.
One of the revered NART Ferraris, this 1963 Ferrari 250/275 P race car was the winner of the overall at the Nurburgring in 1963 with John Surtees and Willy Mairesse driving. Likewise, it won the 1964 12 Hours of Sebring with drivers Mike Parkes and Umberto Maglioli updated as a Ferrari 275 P. Later Pedro Rodriquez drove this car to victory as a NART entry in the first race at Mont Tremblant. The Ferrari 250/275 P is one of only four such cars to have been produced by Ferrari.
The Amelia Island Concours Best of Show winners now have their place in collector car history. But there were many more cars receiving awards on the concours showfield today. See many of them reviewed here:
