Collector Car Values for 2015 up 2.7 Percent …
At the end of 2014, Cars On Line predicted that the collector car market would be up during 2015. The most recent Cars On Line Market Trend report is out today (see statistics below), and the numbers show the market up slightly by 2.7 percent. So far that’s way short of the six to ten percent that Cars On Line had predicted. It looks like we are going to need a catalyst to get to a 10 percent increase in collector car values for 2015. Something in the U.S. economy will need to spark the collector car market. Job starts? Housing starts?
Nevertheless, the numbers below are an increase of 12.8 percent over what collector car values were in 2008 just before the recession. We use the 2008 collector car market to compare to today’s prices because that is when collector car prices peaked before the U.S. economic recession, which brought collector car prices down during 2009 and 2010.
Here below is an updated list of collector car prices for 2015. This is Cars On Line’s “hot list” of classic cars which change hands frequently in today’s collector car market. We use only No. 2 condition cars in our report because there is better definition in No. 2 condition cars (click here to review collector car condition classes.) We follow these cars to get a sense of what is happening in the larger collector car realm. This sample group is representative of the vast majority of cars changing hands today. Notice that we give you the average prices these cars have sold for for various years, i.e. 2008 before the economic recession; 2014 the prices from last year; and thus far in 2015.

The collector car market is inextricably attached to the economy in general. The weakness in the collector car market in the last couple of years is directly related to how the economy has been flatlining. But most economists believe that 2015 will be the year that businesses will begin hiring again. That should bring the economy back, and with it the collector car market.
What the collector car market has been lacking recently is an infusion of “players.” With more jobs in the economy there will be more people entering the collector car market again.
Each quarter Cars On Line.com sticks a thermometer into the collector car hobby to measure its temperature. Those who follow our Market Trends Reports may remember that in July of 2014 prices had dropped to 8.3 percent below 2013 numbers.
We always hear about the high profile classic cars, such as classic Ferraris, which are selling at what seem to be ever escalating prices at high profile auctions on TV. But the larger collector car market in general has been stagnating, up or down a few points each quarter, not up 10 percent in any year since the 2008 recession. The numbers shown here in the Cars On Line Market Trends report come from high-profile auctions, well-known valuation guides and private sales with known results.
