Best of Show at Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014
A 1955 Chevy Bel Air owned by a Kentucky man won the coveted ‘Best of Show’ honors at the Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014. The custom 1955 Chevy Bel Air resto mod was tastefully restored as a resto mod with Hugger orange paint and primo leather insert interior. Also included in the awards ceremony today were ‘Best of Show’ awards for the top car from each of the car clubs in attendance here this weekend. There were 48 car clubs represented here today.
Jerry Horine, of Louisville, Kentucky, brought his beautiful 1955 Chevy Bel Air to the Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 partly because he had so many relatives from the Charlotte area. They were obviously out here today in support of Horine and his radical custom ride.
Horine said he first saw his ’55 Chevy 2-Door Post in Louisville just after it was restored about three years ago. He was so impressed with the car that shortly thereafter he purchased it. He said this was the first time he has shown it so he’s one for one. The ’55 Chevy resto mod features a 2″ chopped top and some very nice wheels. We have been here at the Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 taking in the sights and sounds of the classic iron on display, and reporting on the action. Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 is the hottest show in the country this weekend. Some of the old timers who have been at this show every year were telling us that this year’s Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 was the best show they’ve had here since before the recession in 2009. That’s a good omen for car collectors. This place is so immense you have to be here to understand the scope of it. So photo-journalist Bob Boberg decided to do a video of the Charlotte Motor Speedway grounds as he saw it on Saturday.
Bob has been enjoying the weather and the cars here in Concord, North Carolina while keeping our readers up on everything that is going on at one of the world’s largest auto events. Although it cooled off considerably on Sunday, the temperatures for most of the 4-day event were in the 80’s with sunny skies each day. You could just feel the excitement in the air as the car show season is officially underway. We enjoyed seeing what has become one of the most popular collector car shows in the country. We published this page and updated it several times a day so you could get a feel for this incredible show.
The Hornet’s Nest Chapter of the AACA sponsors the Charlotte Autofair car show and swap meet here in Concord, North Carolina. The AACA judging for the regionals happened here on Saturday. There were 316 cars on the field at the AACA event (the AACA show was held in an area outside the speedway near the Red Field). The only way to describe the show field was to call it a “Field of Dreams.” The AACA is all about originality and there were some really great cars and trucks displayed. The award structure goes something like this based on discussions with several people at the meet: The AACA Senior award is the most prestigious. Then there are AACA Junior First Place, Junior Second Place and Junior Third Place. Once you reach the Senior level you can try to get additional points in the ‘Preservation’ level Grand National.
Here are some of the cars contending for AACA Senior and AACA Junior First Place awards.

Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 Swap Meet
The swap meet is gynormous. There are two fields (named “Orange” and “Blue”) on the infield of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Two more fields (“Green” and “Red”) are located outside the speedway in the parking area. The swap meet and car corral at the Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 are sponsored by the Hornet’s Nest Region AACA, one of the largest Antique Auto Club of America regional chapters in the country. They really put on a good show.

By the number of people that are already here we anticipate it will be a record turnout for Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014. There are more people here this early in the week than there were last year. They position show cars all the way around the track here at Charlotte Motor Speedway. And there are some incredible cars here already. It is anticipated that there will be over 1,600 cars for sale in the car corral area. But to tell you the truth, there are for sale signs on a lot of the cars in the show car display too.

Covering the show this weekend for Cars On Line.com is Bob Boberg, a photo-journalist who also has his own website called eClassicAutos.com. Watch for Bob’s Twitter posts from the Spring Charlotte Autofair 2014 all weekend.
Still in the SNOW up here in the FROZEN NORTH EAST, Thanks for the free show.
Still in the SNOW up here in the FROZEN NORTH EAST. THANKS FOR THE SHOW.
Vernon, we’re encouraged by the nice weather here in North Carolina. Hang in there. There is hope.
Love the Autofair and love the pics. I try to make it out there for either the spring or fall show each year. We always have such a great time and usually walk away with some great deals on used parts from the swap meet and some bad sunburns, haha. Great to see a cool more door wagon in your post. Thanks for sharing!
