Last day at 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals …
This was one of the best shows of the year so far. What a blast we had at the 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals on Sunday, the final day of the show. According to Goodguys Rod & Custom Association there were over 6,100 cars registered at the PPG sponsored Goodguys Nationals this weekend.
Sunday afternoon the crowd in the awards hall went crazy when they announced the winner of the Goodguys’ “Logo” car drawing. The chopped and channeled 1932 Ford Tudor Sedan was won by Terry Morgan of San Diego, California. The ’32 Deuce Tudor had been promoted for the last two years. It is a car that was built as a “tribute” to the Goodguys logo (i.e. yellow hot rod). Terry’s son Eric drew the winning key. There were 34 people in the contest from all over the US. All contestants drew keys from a bow. One of the keys would start the car. Eric was the 25th person to try his luck and was obviously one happy guy.

Yesterday Goodguys Rod & Custom Association crowned their 2014 Street Machine of the Year winner and their 2014 Street Rod of the Year award winner. Here are the winning cars:
On Saturday evening here at the 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals we were told that a 1967 Chevy Nova resto mod from Florida was the new 2014 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year. Earlier in the afternoon, the 2014 Goodguys Street Rod of the Year was chosen. A 1932 Ford Fordor won the top street rod award. The 1932 Ford Fordor is owned by Don and Carolyn Smith of Mansfield, Texas.

As the Friday session of the 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals came to an end we had already packed a week’s worth of action into one day. The Autocross racing early in the day, the display of the Street Machine of the Year and Street Rod of the Year competition and the Vintage Drags at the National Trail Raceway. That’s a lot to take in for one day. But it was worth it. We’re here reporting on all the action at the 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
The 2014 Goodguys Columbus Nationals is the biggest show of the year for America’s largest street rod and customs organization. Some of the top cars in the country were on hand to compete in the much heralded Goodguys 2014 Optima Battery Street Machine of the Year competition. The Goodguys 2014 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year was also announced this weekend. Cars On Line.com published the winner here on Saturday. On Friday morning J.F. Launier and his Ridler Award winning 1964 Buick Riviera called “Rivision” competed in the Autocross competition which is a requirement to be considered for the 2014 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year award. Launier put on a good show with a 36-second run. He was holding nothing back as he spun around the corners and stood on it through the finish line. This performance may have vaulted him into the leadership among the cars competing to be 2014 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year. Take a look at his first run in video below:
The judging for both the 2014 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year award and the 2014 Goodguys Street Rod of the Year award will begin on Saturday. We will bring you photos of some of the contestants here. The field of about 20 for each award will be weeded down to just five tomorrow. The announcement of which cars will be in the top five for each award will be carried here. So stay tuned to this page for more on the top five cars.
The Goodguys Columbus Nationals is also known as the Goodguys 17th Annual Goodguys PPG Nationals since PPG is the big sponsor of this event. For many years this has been where hot rod history was made with the top cars in the hobby meeting here to contend for the two biggest awards of the summer car show season.
