1934 Ford Sedan Resto Rod
One of the most interesting stories we heard here at the Back to the 5os Weekend was about this 1934 Ford Sedan Resto Rod. Tom Sawvel of Medina, Minnesota told us that everything on this car is the way a custom would have been back in the day. “I know,” he told us. “I was there.”
Tom said he got the car in California in 1955 where it was first built into a custom 3-Window by Barris Customs. He brought it back to Wisconsin and built an engine for it in 1957, a ford flathead with 3X2s. He said he sold the car as a 3-Window coupe in 1962. He bought the chassis back in 1990 and began a custom restoration in 1995.
Interestingly, Tom used a one-off technique which he created for opening the exhaust cutouts. You get the full sound effect when he pushes a button on the dash to let her rip.
You’ll notice from the photo below that the custom dash still has the Barris designed instrument panel.
