Thursday at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction
Thursday at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction …
Here Thursday at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction it dawned on us that there is a new mood at the world’s biggest collector car auction. We’ve never seen such a feeding frenzy this early in the week. I don’t think we’ve ever seen nine sales over $100,000 on a Thursday before. Already we’re watching No. 2 condition show cars bringing very good prices.
Our Cars On Line.com newsletter readers know we have been touting the importance of classic and custom pickup trucks. We noticed last year that classic Ford F100 pickups were attracting more hits than any other collector vehicle on the internet. That trend was highlighted in the Thursday sale here at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction when a 1955 Ford F100 Pickup was the top sale of the night. The black custom ’55 F100 sold for $200,000 in a surprise sale that shocked everyone. (With Barrett-Jackson’s commission included the total sale was $220,000.) The truck, dubbed “Night Train” by its builders, was pro built in 2013 with a 550 horsepower 427 small block Ford engine, 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission, Currie 9″ rear end, riding on a TCI chassis with independent front suspension, coilover shocks and 4-wheel disc brakes.
It should not go unnoticed that three 1969 Pontiac GTO Judges went for big money on Thursday. Of course, all were Carousel red (looks orange.) A 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge, Lot # 852, sold for $100,000. The auctioneer said it benefitted from a highly detailed restoration, PHS documentation, a 400 engine and a 4-speed. They said it had all correct part number tags. It also had Saf-T-track rear end, correct Rally wheels, hood tach and a console. Another 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge, #821 had gone through earlier in the sale and also sold at the exact same price of $100,000. That raises the bar for true No. 2 show quality GTO Judges. Check our Cars On Line.com Market Trends Report published last month to view what the prices on GTO Judges had been prior to this year’s 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction. There were four other vehicles that reached the $100,000 mark on Thursday.

The 2014 Barrett-Jackson Auction will have a new look this year as nearly everything about the show has changed. They have a new auction stadium compliments of the city of Scottsdale, so the grounds are set up very differently this year. You will also note that FOX Sports has bought out the SPEED Channel so the schedule for watching the Barrett-Jackson on TV is very different this year. You need a schedule to find out which segments of the auction will be seen on the different channels. See the schedule at the bottom of this page.
As a preview here are some of the “prime time” vehicles you’ll see going through the auction on Saturday. All are from the 5000 Series of special cars to be auctioned off during the late afternoon and early evening broadcast of the auction on the National Geographic Channel. (For a full schedule of TV coverage see the chart at the bottom of this page.)
