2014 Pebble Beach Concours

Ferrari 375 MM wins 2014 Pebble Beach Concours …
PEBBLE BEACH, CA, August 17, 2014 — The “most important award in the collector car world” has been announced today at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours. A 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Coupe by Scaglietti was chosen as Best of Show at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours this afternoon at the Pebble Beach Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California. The rare Ferrari is owned by Jon Shirley of Medina, Washington. They say his Ferrari is one of only five 375 MM Coupes in existence. It represents a changing of the guard here at Pebble Beach where Pre-War cars were traditionally chosen for Best of Show. It was a historic moment as it is assumed more Post World War II sports cars will be considered. That would draw a new class of collector to the event.
The 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Coupe was bodied by Scaglietti, a famous Italian design house. It was originally ordered by Italian filmaker Roberto Rosselini. Jon Shirley found it in 1995 in Europe. He brought it back to restore for racing. After many years of enjoyment as a race car it was restored once again to show condition.
This was the first time a Ferrari had ever won the Best of Show award at Pebble Beach. It is also the first time since 1968 that the winner was not a pre-World War II marque. About 200 cars were present at the Concours. To win the Best of Show award a car must first win its category. There were 27 classes. The 375 MM Coupe was competing in the Ferrari Grand Touring class.
The top four cars were moved into position in front of the awards area. Three pre-war cars were in the running for Best of Show, plus the 1954 Ferrari which would win. Here are the runners-up.

The 64th Annual 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was held on the 18th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Course against the background of mild breaking waves pounding the Carmel Bay beach along the course. More than 250 classic motorcars were on display along the 17th and 18th holes of the course.
Every year on the third Sunday in August, the most prized collector cars and motorcycles in the world are displayed at the esteemed eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach. It started as a tiny social event as part of the famous Pebble Beach Road Race, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has evolved as the most prestigious concours show in the world. It now demands global attention as its reputation among top collectors draws spectators from all corners of the earth.
The winners of 27 classes of vintage cars and specialty vehicles were eligible for the judging on Sunday. Special displays of Maseratis and Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas, Ruxtons, antique steam powered cars, Darrin coachwork marques, postwar Rolls-Royce Phantoms and eastern European motor bikes all were invited as special exhibits and many were in the judging for Best of Show.
Earlier in the week, on Thursday, Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com captured photos of show participants during their return from the Tour D’Elegance. Huge crowds gathered to watch all the vintage exotic cars come in. It was a great parade.
