1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A Wins 2015 Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show

The 2015 Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show was unveiled during the final hours of the 65th Annual 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance here Sunday, August 16, 2015. There may have been a little tension in the air near the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Course as platoons of international media positioned themselves to get the best shot of the concours ramp where the Best of Show motorcar would soon pull up. Then a burst of confetti filled the air as the 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A drew up to the awards platform and owner Jim Patterson and his wife Dot accepted the Best of Show trophy.
Cars On Line photographer Bob Boberg captured some of the excitement as the 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tip 8A wins Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show:
The Pattersons are from Louisville, Kentucky and have won the Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show once before in 2010. Now they have won the 65th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance with a vintage motorcar that was completed just in time for the show. Jim Patterson thanked RM’s restoration team for completing the car in time for the show, and doing such an excellent job on the restoration.
Patterson said he was “overwhelmed” that he won this year because the competition was so much stronger. He mentioned that he thought the 1937 Delahaye 145 Franay Cabriolet owned by Sam and Emily Mann was worthy of the top award also. The Manns were runners up for the Best of Show, and won the Most Elegant Convertible trophy.
Here are the runners-up for Best of Show and some of the Best in Class winners from the 65th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance:
The 1924 Isotta Fraschini was rebodied in 1931 as a Sports Cabriolet because of its 145-inch wheelbase. Patterson said what he loves about the car is the Straight 8 engine. The Italian made Isotta Fraschini motorcars were famous as production cars which were among the most luxurious and prestigious ever built. The Tipo 8A was produced from 1924 through 1931. It was powered by a 7.4L overhead valve and overhead cam Straight 8.
In 2010, the Pattersons had won the same Best of Show award with a 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster.
The competition drew 219 cars from 16 countries and 29 U.S. states to the 18th fairway
of Pebble Beach Golf Links. It also raised over $1.8 million to help people in need.
Through the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, which celebrates its 40th anniversary
this year, these charitable funds will benefit 100 local charities.
