Fall Auburn Auction 2019 To Make History

History Made at Fall Auburn Auction 2019

Some historic cars were sold here at the Fall Auburn Auction 2019 as the tradition of celebrating automotive history continues on this Labor Day Weekend. Once again on Saturday, the top sale was a silver 2005 Ford GT  with a hammer price of $265,000. The previous day, on Friday, the same thing happened with a Mark IV red 2005 Ford GT selling for $275,000. But two of the most hotly contested bidding wars broke out when a 1933 Chrysler CL Dual-Windshield Phaeton sold at $175,000, and a 1923 Duesenberg sold at $170,000. It is all part of the big Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival here in Auburn, Indiana. It is Prime Time Saturday here at the Fall Auburn Auction, and the bidding action got hot and heavy here this afternoon at the RM Auction Park. 

The 1933 Chrysler CL Imperial Dual-Cowl Phaeton was impressive as it took the auction stage here in Auburn, during the 49th Annual Labor Day Weekend sale, August 29-September 1, 2019. It is one of fewer than twenty authentic survivors. It has a known history and is loaded with provenance. It is no wonder that the bidding was hotly contested. The bidding did not stop until this beautiful dual-windshield convertible was sold at $175,000. Here are photos from the Saturday sale.

1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster sold at Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction
A 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster was bid up to $1,125,000 just missing its Reserve. It was the highest bid here today at the Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction. Later in the auction it was announced that an online bidder bought the car for $1,200,000.

 

Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction Saturday …

Saturday was prime time at the Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction. Cars On Line and its Facebook followers spent much of this afternoon discussing some of the high profile sales here at the first spring sale in Southeastern Florida for 2017. It was a session of fun and entertainment as we hosted an online “happening” with our Facebook community. Our readers watched the Auctions America live stream online. Then many kept another browser window open to join in on our auction discussion on Facebook.

The top sale was a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster selling to an internet bidder after the it crossed the auction block as a No Sale. Bidding had reached $1,125,000 while it was on the auction block. The online bidder continued to negotiate until late in the afternoon and finally purchased the car for $1,200,000.

In the ’60s, Mercedes-Benz made a name here in the U.S. by exporting its brash 300SL Roadster to an American audience. This 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster benefitted from the European legend, the Gullwing coupes of Grand Prix racing fame. It is one of just 26 built in the final year of 300SL production. It included a higher compression version of the 3.0-liter six cylinder Mercedes engine with a sports camshaft.

Our Facebook fans enjoyed predicting the value of each car as they approached the auction block. What we like about this auction is that there are always a lot of “blue collar” classic cars and muscle cars offered.  And that means there are always a few bargains. You never know when a buyer will get lucky.

Here is a review of the Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction, March 31-April 2, 2017. Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2017, Auctions America’s Fort Lauderdale sale is billed as South Florida’s premier collector car auction. Bidders from the U.S. and 18 other countries were anticipated to bid on affordable examples of fine American classic and muscle cars and European sports cars. Classic Porsches were very popular and probably got the highest overall average prices at this show.

2007 Ferrari F430 F1A 2007 Ferrari F430 F1 Coupe, which was purchased new by President Donald Trump in 2007, still has under 6,000 miles, serviced at Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island. It has a 6-speed paddle shift F1 transmission and Daytona styled wheels. The Rosso Corso red Ferrari F430 is powered by a 4.3L 490-hp V8 engine. The title included President Trump’s Trump Tower, New York address and his distinctive, bold signature. President Trump owned the car for a little over four years. Bidding reached $240,000, and as the president’s Ferrari rolled off the stage it was announced that an internet buyer was still negotiating. Hours later Auctions America came out with a statement that the car ended up selling for $270,000, a price which would be a record for a 2007 Ferrari F430 with the F1 paddle-shifted automatic transmission.

And did the future ever look bright for GM’s Buick division. This car showed off what Buick engineer’s were capable of doing. Bid up to $100,000. Did not meet reserve.

1969 Boss 429 Mustang for sale at Auctions America Ft Lauderdale AuctionFord’s entry into NASCAR’s thundering big block wars was the legendary Boss 429 Mustang. Although the Mustang was just a placebo for the Boss 429 motor to be homologated for NASCAR, the 1969 Boss 429 Mustang has become an icon for the muscle car era. The one that will be auctioned off at the Ft Lauderdale sale is a late build among the 859 Boss 429’s produced by Ford in 1969. You may remember it from the feature article written about it in Mustang Monthly magazine. They were expecting over $180,000 for this one. Reserve is off! SOLD for $210,000!

1956 Buick Speical Convertible, Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction
A sweet 1956 Buick Special Convertible, Lot # 478, will go through the auction early in the afternoon on Saturday. It has power steering and power seats. It is expected to go for over $50,000. SOLD for $47,500. Phone bidder bought the car.
1969 Mach 1 Mustang R Code 428CJ at the Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction
A Candy Apple red 1969 Mach 1 Mustang 428CJ R Code will be crossing the auction block soon., Lot # 489. Word is you could buy this car for $45,000. Reserve off! SOLD for $43,500!
1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE
Beautiful 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE with the 440 Six Pack will cross the block, Lot # 511. Word is that the reserve might be only $50,000. Bid to $45,000. Word is there may be an internet bidder still negotiating with the owner after the sale.

Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 Final Gavel …

Some came to the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 for the opportunity to buy top level muscle cars  while others came here just to witness the much heralded event.  “I want to be able to say I was there,” one collector told us. So as the final gavel fell we collectively agree that we have just experienced the most spectacular event of its kind in the collector car kingdom. Among the collectors who took part in the Mecum Auction sale here in Kissimmee, Florida there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this was the greatest muscle car show of all time. More important, there is a sense here that finally collectors are seeing prices return to pre-recession levels like those before 2008, especially on top quality Mopar muscle cars. Of the top ten sales here Friday and Saturday, seven were Mopars.

The Friday sale was “Prime Time” for Mopar collectors. Just as expected, the two top sales at the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 on Friday were the yellow 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible which sold for $2,675,000 and the white 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sold for $2,300,000. Prime Time Friday here in Kissimmee at the Mecum Auction brought a record sale. Top collectors from all over the country were on hand. One of our Cars On Line Dealer Network classic car dealers told us he had sold 53 cars here this week. Here are some of the top sales for Friday:

  • TOP SALE for Friday, 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible

A rare 1963 Corvette Z06 Tanker was the top sale of the day on Saturday here at the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 as the biggest muscle car show in history convened. The Corvette was one of only 63 built by Chevrolet in ’63 and was originally equipped with an over-sized gas tank for racing. It sold for $710,000. This particular “tanker” has achieved Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame status and is highly desirable to Corvette collectors.  And, inspite of strong winds and overcast skies here in Kissimmee, collectors came in big numbers to appreciate the historic sale.

Here are some of the top cars in the Prime Time Saturday sale:

  • 1963 Corvette Z06 Tanker was sold for $710,000

Of all the mighty Mopar muscle cars, fabulous ’50s classics and incredible exotics featured here, ironically a 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (shown in the photo at the top of the page) captured the second highest sale price on Saturday at the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016. It sold early Saturday afternoon for $387,500. The exotic luxury car is part of the Black Series for AMG, and is said to have only 1,800 miles.

It was unseasonably cold and windy here at the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 on Saturday, but the wind and overcast skies did not keep collector car buyers from packing the Osceola Heritage Park. Buyers and spectators were in high spirits following a record breaking Friday sale, and they all knew that some of the best cars were still to come.

 

On Thursday at the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 a 1962 Resto Mod Corvette sold for $135,000, topping a lineup of heavy metal muscle cars, the kind we expected to see here in Kissimmee. These were among the more “blue collar” muscle cars at the show. The top quality cars were scheduled for Friday and Saturday, by and large.

While Thursday was a stellar moment in the history of the Kissimmee Auction held annually here in central Florida, it was just a warmup for the huge day we were looking forward to on Friday. As part of the premier Muscle Car Sale of the year, Cars On Line.com was here to cover the Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016.

Everybody has been talking about it since late fall of 2015. This is the one collector car auction you could not to miss for 2016. This Mecum Auction is so big it is creating a buzz in the collector car market just when Wall Street and the stock market are teetering. Investors who are pulling their money out of the stock market may be eyeing up these choice collector cars as a more hands-on way to invest their money. Dana Mecum has pulled a rabbit out of his cap just when the classic car hobby needed it the most.

The Mecum Auction Kissimmee 2016 drew some of the top muscle cars in the country. And with them came the top muscle car buyers. Many of the buyers for big collections were on-hand to cherry pick those rare Mopars, early Trans Ams and Boss 9’s which have been advertised for sale here in Kissimmee. The selection was amazing. There were over 3,000 cars scheduled to cross the auction block during the week long auction show and sale.

From what we were hearing from the top Mopar collectors in the country, many indicated that this was the place to be. The reason is because Dana Mecum had put together the best muscle car auction docket in history. There has never been anything like it.

A recent Mecum press release also noted that there would be seven Boss 429 Mustangs crossing the auction block. We know that two of the eight 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Convertibles produced from the factory were in the sale. And we counted six 1970 Chevelle LS6 454/450 hp cars in the sale, one being a rare convertible. There were also a good selection of hot 1950’s classics, street rods and customs as well as vintage classics.

LAS VEGAS, NV – September 28, 2013 — “Prime Time” Saturday was a whirlwind of activity at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas. The Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino was rockin’ and the big money was in the house. This was a good auction for us to look at the types of cars that Cars On Line.com readers are in the market for. There were enough original muscle cars and  original ’50s classics to see where collector car prices were trending. Saturday was the day when we saw the top quality cars hit the auction stage.  We hope you had a chance to follow our coverage on Facebook and on our ClassiCar News page (where we feature car show coverage.)  Our partner site, eClassicAutos.com, was on hand to photograph the auction action and provide feedback. 

The Saturday sale ran from noon until 8 PM, PDT. The show was carried on the National Geographic Channel on your cable service. Here are a few interesting sales from Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson.

1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
A 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster  crossed the auction block this afternoon. It is Lot # 692. This car should indicate to us what these XK120’s will bring going forward. If you check our Cars On Line Market Update Report (see link above) you’ll find that they have been selling for just under $100,000. OHHHH! … actual sale price was $67,000. This was a great car for that price.

 

1960 Cadillac Custom Roadster
With full Air Ride Technologies suspension and a custom ’59 Impala dashboard, this 1960 Cadillac Custom Roadster will be crossing the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas this afternoon. We expect this one to go for six figures.  Lot # 695.  Actual sale price was $55,000.

 

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
Now this is what I’m talkin’ about. A magnificent Mopar! This Plum Crazy Purple 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is said to be a true V code 440 6-Pack car, and what’s more it is a factory 4-speed. According to our Market Update Report it should bring about $65,000, but I think this one will do better than that because the big money is in the house today here at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas. Lot # 700. Very cool. SOLD for $90,000.

 

1969 1/2 Plymouth Road Runner A12
This is a 1969 1/2 Plymouth Road Runner with the 440 6-Pack engine and the A12 Lift-Off hood option. These were some of the most impressive muscle cars of the era. We would expect this one to get at least six figures when it crosses the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson Auction here in Las Vegas. Lot # 701. SOLD for $55,000. That was the DEAL of the DAY! Must have been the color.

 

1955 Desoto Fireflite Convertible
Classic ’50s Mopars are hot and it was our opinion that this 1955 Desoto Fireflite Convertible with the 292 ci Hemi motor and Powerflite transmission would prove it. We’ve seen these cars go for over $100,000 in the past. Today, we’re were expecting a more modest bid on this one. Lot # 705. Actual sale price was $65,000 before buyer’s commission.

 

1970 Chevelle SS LS6 Convertible
This is the top muscle car at the show today, bar none. It is a very rare 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 Convertible … harder to find than frog’s hair.  The description indicates that it is numbers matching and comes with some documentation. We know it will do at least six figures, but will the bidding reach the $200,000 mark here at the Barrett-Jackson Auction? Well, no, actually it drew a high bid of $135,000. 1964 Volkswagen Samba Bus
We talked about this in the newsletter yesterday. These Volkswagen buses are all the rage in California. This one is the desirable 21-window Samba version of the1964 Volkswagen Bus. At the January Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale one of these was sold for $165,000! Will this one get bid up to six figures? We think yes. Lot # 710.1. Yep, SOLD for $100,000. 1951 Mercury Custom
In tribute to his father John Barris built this 1951 Mercury Custom Lead Sled and called it “The Rose.” Sam Barris’s legendary ’50s build of a similar Merc Lead Sled made him famous throughout the custom car world. We can’t wait to see this 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Custom Convertible under the lights of the Barrett-Jackson stage here in Las Vegas. We’ve seen cars in this category get over $200,000 at a Barrett-Jackson event. We think this one will go over $100,000, but it would be a surprise if it reached $150,000. Lot # 729. For whatever reason this sale topped out at $92,000 before buyer’s commission.

 

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible
Ths ended up being the biggest surprise of the evening. A Sierra Gold 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible was offered at the Barrett-Jackson Auction during prime time tonight. This one was restored by a top quality restoration shop and is the finest Bel Air Convertible in the show. We think it might go for $100,000, even though the average No. 2 condition Bel Air Convertible goes for about $75,000. This one is special. Lot # 736. 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible
I read this crowd as being a Cadillac crowd so you might see some big money being thrown at this 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible which crossed the auction block as Lot # 737. Our Market Report has this one at about $132,000 in No. 2 condition. This might be the right venue for this great classic Cadillac.  The actual sale price was $93,000. 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T
The sale Mopar fans have been waiting for! This Mango Orange 1970 Dodge Challenger Hemi R/T will get the crowd at the Barrett-Jackson Auction up on the stage. This car was inspected by Mopar historian Galen Govier. He says it has a factory replaced warranty block. This is it! The big sale of the night for Mopar muscle car collectors.  Lot # 746. The car actually brought $132,000 before buyer’s commission.

 

1970 Plymouth Superbird
That big wing made this 1970 Plymouth Superbird capable of 200 mph on NASCAR tracks. They say this B5 Blue Superbird has matching numbers 440/375 hp motor and a Torqueflite transmission. No. 2 condition Superbirds are going for $110,000. Lot # 752. The actual sale price was $122,000, pretty much in line with what market prices are at currently.

 

1931 Lincoln Model K Convertible
For the vintage car collector this is one outstanding find. This 1931 Lincoln Model K Convertible Coupe sports Lebaron Coachwork with a top quality restoration at a well known restoration facility. What is most important to the vintage collector, it has never been shown at an AACA or CCCA event so you have all of that to look forward to. It is from a noted collection. Lot # 759. The car we were most interested in was the 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty which they say has undergone a restoration. It is a real 1974 X Code Super Duty Trans Am with matching numbers and PHS documentation. One of only 943 built. It was sold for $100,000 before buyer’s commission. A desirable tri-color 1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible is one of the top ’50s cars at the show. The Caribbean was the top of the line for Packard, and this one came with many options that were way ahead of its time such as power steering, Easamatic power brakes, power window lifts, power front seat, power operated soft top, signal seeking radio and leather upholstery.
