2014 Hot August Nights
Grand Sierra Show & Shine at 2014 Hot August Nights
The first place we stopped off at when we arrived in Reno was the Grand Sierra Hotel. During the 2014 Hot Nights the Grand Sierra Hotel will have one of the best Show & Shines in the whole area. Here are some of the cars we saw this week.
Our Cars On Line.com newsletter readers will remember this 1967 Venom Nova which was featured recently in the newsletter (click here to review feature article on this car.) A hot rodder from Huntingtown, Maryland brought his car here to Hot August Nights. Rich Roberts of Clinton, Tennessee carefully prepared the box frames on these cars so that they are the strongest you can buy. He used a Moly cage, a 5-speed Lenco ST 1200 transmission, 9″ 411 Stange Detroit Lockers, coilover 4-link and Mustang II front end. Roberts built very few of these Pro Max Venom setups. This is the nicest one we’ve done and done right. After being seen here at th Grand Sierra Hotel Show & Shine the 1967 Pro Max Vennom Nova was chosen as one of the top 25 cars at Hot August Nights and a contender for the Barrett-Jackson Cup award.

This 1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery really caught our attention. Everything from how straight the paint is to how it was built and designed is extra special about this custom delivery. Glen Jahnke from Talent, Oregon brought the car to the show. It is the product of a 5-year custom restoration. The builder was Tommy Carr of Carr’s Hot Rods & Customs in Gold Hill, Oregon. The detail on this car is amazing. The Asanti Fs wheels were custom painted to match the theme of the car. The rear floor was custom painted with a one-off “wood look” paint process expertly done to make it look like real wood. Even the gas door (rear driver side taillight cover) works on a remote. We encouraged the owner to take this beauty to E. 4th Street the next day to see if the judges would select it for the Barrett-Jackson Cup award. Sure enough, by Friday afternoon it had a ribbon designating it as one of the top 25 finalists for the award.

Almost as exotic as last year’s Barrett-Jackson Cup winner, this 1969 Camaro Roadster is named “Bad Company” and was brought to the show by Weaver Customs out of Sandy, Utah. This incredible piece of rolling custom artwork has a Corvette Z06 drivetrain with the Camaro body widened 12 inches in the rear, 8 inches in front and shortened 3 1/2 inches overall. The long slung windshield and and lowered stance along with the widened body are so stunning no one can pass it without uttering “whoaaaaa.” They say the engine is an LS6 big block and it uses a T56 6-speed manual transmission. The list of top equipment includes Flowmaster, Forgeline wheels, Nitto Invo tires, JS Custom Interiors, Axaulta custom mixed paint, Wilwood 6/4 brakes and Kicker sound.
