Spring 2017 Collector Car Value Report
In the recent Cars-On-Line.com Market Trends Report, prices on collector cars have done something we have not witnessed in the 25 years our website has been in business on the internet. Collector car values this year have failed to move up or down by even one percent. That is the definition of a flat market, in our view. The report covers the sales prices of collector and specialty cars during the early months of 2017.
Cars-On-Line’s market analysis shows that classic Jaguars are in the fast lane for accelerating values. Our statistical test models for Jaguar XK AND XKE series cars show prices are up 28.7 percent in just the past five months. Whereas, the average value of a 1967 Jaguar V12 E-Type Roadster in 2016 was $71,904, the same car today would be worth $138,600 today. In this case the XKE Roadster is up almost double what it was averaging at auctions last year. The highest price paid for a 1967 Jaguar V12 E-Type Roadster in the past five months was a whopping $213,000. Many are predicting that the rarest of the Jaguars, D-types and classic racing Jaguars will be commanding prices similar to the popular 1960’s Ferraris.
Among classic American cars, Pontiacs and Studebakers are continuing to increase in value. However, what is driving Pontiac collector car values now are not the GTO prices, but the prices on Firebirds and Trans Ams. Fords and Mopars are continuing to move slightly upward in value as well.

The column 2008 shows what collector car values were in 2008 at the height of the collector car market prior to the economic recession when prices took a tumble.
