Spring Carlisle Auction 2018 Set For
Record Sale Again Here Saturday

SATURDAY, April 21, 2018, Carlisle, PA — As the Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet roars into gear here for the big Saturday crowds, we were watching the Spring Carlisle Auction 2018 at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. In a surprise twist, the Saturday crowd included collectors looking for classic pickup trucks. And did they ever sell here today. Here are some of the top sales we saw today:

Record sales for Thursday and Friday set the pace here at the Spring Carlisle Auction 2018 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. As the Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet, April 19-22, 2018, entered its third day, the swap meet area was popping with parts hunters. The sun was out for a much nicer day here at the Carlisle Fairgrounds after the rain and cold experienced here Thursday. Cars were backed up on Hwy I-81 as show goers waited in long lines to get into the Fairgrounds for the show.

On Thursday, we saw cars in the $50,000 range selling well. Our auction spotter tells us they sold about 60 percent of what crossed the auction block. With about 190 cars rolling across the auction stage, the auction lasted well into the early evening hours. This morning, Carlisle Events announced a record $2.1 million sales total for Thursday alone.

What Carlisle is known for is its acres and acres of parts to swap. The Carlisle Swap Meet is centuries old and is what made the Carlisle collector car franchise what it is today. We can’t bring you the Carlisle Experience without taking a look through the Swap Meet area:

2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show Sunday …

The weather here at the 2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show could not have been any more perfect. You could tell the spectators here were having the time of their lives. So were we. There were over 151,000 spectators here during Thanksgiving Weekend.

The 2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show is the largest Show and Swap in the U.S. So this weekend Cars On Line’s Car Show team is in Daytona Beach, Florida to bring you all the action from the Turkey Run. 2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show Dream Build …

As a crowd of spectators waited for the unveiling of the Dream Build, the Saturday edition of the 2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show was well underway. Not only did they reinact the reveal of this one-off 1955 Chevy 3100 Custom, but they auctioned it off for charity right here on the infield of the Daytona International Speedway. The winning bid was placed by Loraine and Todd Dotson of Orlando, Florida. They paid $150,000, with the proceeds going to local charities. It was all captured for a special edition of the South Beach Classics TV show on the Velocity Channel. Here is how it looked:

They called it the “Grand Reveal.” Under the canvas cover on the infield here at the 2016 Daytona Turkey Run Car Show was a classic custom pickup built specifically for this year’s Turkey Run. In fact, all the parts used to build this truck were sourced from the parts vendors in the giant Turkey Run Swap Meet here at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Ted Vernon, from the South Beach Classics TV show on Velocity Channel was on hand. Then the builders, Complete Auto Body from Waldorf, Maryland, took the cover off this gorgeous 1955 Chevy 3100 Stepside Custom.

Some of the old Daytona area race cars will be displayed in the NASCAR pits. This year, they expect more than 6,000 cars to be on display in the show and for sale. There are always some great deals to find here. And the Swap Meet area is gigantic. Indeed, it takes up most of the pit area and infield at the Daytona International Speedway.

The 2016 Goodguys Southeastern Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina was a good example of how the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has mastered the art of putting on great car shows. The popular Goodguys Autocross competition was very competitive. The Autocross competition is now one of the most popular events at this year’s Goodguys events. We talked to Ryan Mathews, the driver for the Detroit Speed team. The interview was before the Goodguys Award ceremony at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. There it was announced that he had won the Autocross Pro Class.

The 2016 Goodguys Southeastern Nationals held their awards ceremony in the Winners Circle at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Many of the award winners we saw here today will be finalists for the Goodguys top awards at Phoenix next month. See them in the slider below:

People come from all over the Carolinas and surrounding states to get their fill of nostalgia and good times. In fact, many of our newsletter readers who harkened to the call to meet in Charlotte this weekend got a chance to mark one off their bucket list. Hundreds of show car owners and hobbyists were able to Cruise Under the Lights on the hallowed Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was a sight to see.

This Goodguys 23rd Annual Pennzoil Southeastern Nationals will be a memorable occasion for our readers. Over 2,500 cars registered for the Show & Shine all three days. The Goodguys Car Show, Swap Meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral are a huge draw for spectators and buyers during one of the nation’s premier car shows. Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals in Ft Worth, Texas

Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals in Texas …

We finally had some great weather for a car show here in Ft Worth, Texas on Sunday. That really brought out the crowds to see the Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals.

Over 2,000 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks produced through 1972 were on hand for the Goodguys show. Registered car owners had a chance to compete on the Goodguys Autocross course, plus parade their cars on the Texas Motor Speedway track on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. One of the outstanding features of this show for spectators is the Nitro Thunderfest Dragster exhibit. Texas Area Classic Chevy’s will be the honorary club for the show. Of course, show goers will be impressed with the giant swap meet area where you can see parts from private vendors as well as displays from the major national distributors, plus buyers will be treated to one of the best Cars4Sale corrals in the state.

1969 Pontiac GTO at Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals — Steven B’s 1969 Pontiac GTO has been named as a finalist in the Goodguys Muscle Car of the Year competition. It is an MSD sponsored car. Award winner will be announced on Sunday.

The weekend started rainy and overcast on Friday at the Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals in Ft Worth, Texas. But that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of show goers. Texas rodders have been anxiously awaiting the 6th Annual Goodguys Spring Lonestar Nationals, March 11-13, 2016, because it means the show car season is underway.

Action at Spring 2015 Carlisle Car Show …

CARLISLE, PA — The weather finally warmed up and it was a great final day here at the Spring 2015 Carlisle Car Show. Carlisle Events, promoters of the show, told us that 100,000 spectators passed through the turnstiles at the Carlisle Fairgrounds during the four-day show. Even though the weather was chilly the first three days here it didn’t deter classic car collectors from rummaging for parts in the Swap Meet area.

The Carlisle Swap Meet is traditionally considered to be one of the best in the U.S. If you’ve been looking for that hard-to-find part for your collector car, you’ll probably find it here. The “big moment” for this year’s show came when they sold actor Burt Reynolds’ personal 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit at the Carlisle Events Auction. It was a reproduction of the car that starred in Reynold’s famous Smokey and the Bandit movie, built by one of Burt’s friends, Harold Murphy, and built as an authentic reproduction of the original Bandit movie car. There happy buyer who outbid everyone for the Burt Reynolds Bandit Trans Am just arrived before the sale began. He came to buy the Reynolds Trans Am but was delayed and arrived just 30 minutes before the actual sale. His presence was felt however, since he was determined to own this car.

What we found out from watching the Carlisle auction and observing what was going on in the Car Corral here, it seems that there is a new ceiling price on collector cars. Only cars under $40,000 were selling. Is this a new benchmark for the current collector car market? We’ll have to see.

For decades, the Spring Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet was one of the top five collector car shows in the country. This is where you find Classic ’50s parts and muscle car era parts. Best of Show at 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair …

CONCORD, NC – April 12, 2015 — A 1969 Camaro ZL1 has won Best of Show at the 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair here at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Hugger orange 1969 Camaro ZL1 pulled into the winner’s circle at the speedway on Sunday so that owner Tony Ray Young, a native of Charlotte, could receive the award. Famous NASCAR crew chief, Ray Evernham, was on hand to announce the awards today, and present the Best of Show trophy.

The 1969 Camaro ZL1 was sold new at Roger Penske Chevrolet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is No. 25 of the original 69 factory COPO Camaro’s which were sold with the special COPO 9560 High Performance package which included aluminum block 427 big block motor, special ducted hood, heavy duty springs, heavy duty radiator, 410 ratio posi traction rear axle and transistorized ignition.

We’re at the 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair at Charlotte Speedway for one of the most popular car shows on the Southeastern seaboard. A 1969 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 two-door hardtop is on display in the judging area. Muscle cars are also included in AACA judging. This is said to be a real W-30 collector car.

After a long winter its great to be back out at the track with the smells of Southern food on the grille and burnin’ rubber in the air. Who knows what we’ll discover in the giant Swap Meet area?

Haulin’ all you can hold, then return to buy some more. That’s how it works here at the 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair at Charlotte Speedway in the giant Swap Meet area. And that’s the method many use to scour acre upon acre of collectible auto and truck parts here. Can you imagine a swap meet that has over 8,500 vendors? That’s a lot of classic auto parts. It’s a treasure hunt! Just the place to uncover that hard-to-find part that’s been eluding you. There are two fields (named “Orange” and “Blue”) in the infield area of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Two more fields (“Green” and “Red”) are located outside the speedway on the parking lot. The swap meet and car corral at the 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair are sponsored by the Hornet’s Nest Region AACA, one of the largest Antique Auto Club of America regional chapters in the country. They really put on a good show.

Holley carbs — Top them off with a Holley performance carburetor. These are not your father’s carbs.

There are some interesting displays here at the 2015 Spring Charlotte Autofair, the kind of exhibits you don’t see anywhere else.

Jimmy Johnson's 1967 Camaro RS — Next to the Dodge Brothers anniversary exhibit is a cool display of collector cars owned by NASCAR drivers. This is Jimmie Johnson’s 1967 Camaro RS which was built in tribute to his friend Randy Dorton, who was the Hendrick master engine builder killed in the plane crash in 2004. The Dorton SB2 358 ci NASCAR engine boosts 720 hp and was considered too wild to be driven on the street. The car was housed in the Hendrick Museum until now. They have replaced the SB2 motor with an LS2 ZR1 Corvette motor to show it here. (Photo by Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com.)

Jeff Gordon's 1952 Oldsmobile 88 Convertible — Jeff Gordon bought this 1952 Oldsmobile 88 Convertible factory demo car with the plexiglass see-through hood at the Barrett-Jacson Auction. The demo cars were used as at Oldsmobile dealerships in ’52. Only a handful of these cars were built to let the public view the new 303 ci Olds Rocket V8 engine.
