Huge Turnout for Wavecrest Woodie Show
ENCINITAS, CA — Saturday, Sept 21, 2013
“It’s an Oldie, But it’s a Woodie,” read the license plate on a 1949 Ford Woodie Wagon on display at the Wavecrest Woodie Show at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California today. The world’s largest all-woodie classic car show in the country was a sight for sore eyes. Many a good story was told this morning and a few teary eyes as “us oldtimers” reunited with our memories once again pouring over the treasured wood-bodied cars of the past. Over two hundred woodies returned to Moonlight Beach.
Good food and good friends is what this show is all about. The woodie restorers in California pretty much know each other from working together to get their cars back on the road. Several woodie clubs and at least one major woodie collector were on hand to ad their knowledge and passion for these cars to the event. One person told me that it was more about “the people” than the cars to most of them. It is almost a spiritual experience for spectators to be in the presence of so much history.
Below we are featuring some of the views from the show today. Check back on this site this evening for some individual stories and photos of the top cars here today.
