Rare Vintage Motorcar Auction …
On Saturday we visited the Worldwide Auctioneers at the 2014 Auburn Festival. Worldwide Auctioneers consider themselves to be Vintage Motorcar Specialists and have held an auction at the NATMUS Museum for many years. While the big national auctions may have a few vintage motorcars in their auction sale list, in truth, that’s all Worldwide Auctioneers caters to here. When viewing their inventory display at the NATMUS Museum on Saturday we were struck by the vision of old Cords, Auburn Speedsters and Packards for sale all in one place. This was truly a special sale to attend. We thought we would bring you some photos of these old treasures.
Although it is not an Auburn, Cord or Duesenberg we figured this 1955 Hudson Italia Coupe was by far the most rare piece of coachwork at the show. Only 26 of them were ever produced by Hudson Motor Company. This particular car is considered the finest example in existence and is owned by Ed Souers, the president of the Hudson Italia historian for the Hudson Essex Terreplane Club and manager of the Hudson Motor Company Museum in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Hudson had been winning in NASCAR for three years but wanted a sports car to compete in the Mexican Carrera Panamerican, an international event. Hudson believed it could achieve success in the European market through competition. Hudson could design what they wanted to build but needed an Italian coachworks to help it produce the car in low volume. They turned to Carrozzeria Touring to complete the very custom build.
